Halifax 2014 CEO Scott Logan said today that community support for the Commonwealth Games bid set for November, 2007 is steadily increasing. Said Logan, "We've been contacted by numerous business owners who see the tremendous potential of the Games, and are interested in helping the bid."
Despite the usual local naysayers' doom and gloom scare tactics based on oftentimes erroneous and outdated statistics, more and more organizations are stepping up and throwing their support firmly behind Halifax 2014. On August 19, the Halifax-Dartmouth Bridge Commission publically declared their full support for the Halifax bid by placing Halifax 2014 banners on the Macdonald Bridge after a hugely successful annual bridge walk. This year's walk saw 3,000 people trek across the span and many were waving 2014 flags as well as other visible items of support. Also contributing to the ongoing cost-cutting efforts are locally-run businesses, Office Interiors who have donated furniture and Canadian Real Estate Investment Trust Management who has graciously donated office rental fees for the 2014 bid's office location located at Metropolitan Place.
Logan went on to praise the efforts of Maritime Broadcasters who have run free advertising in the form of PSAs on various radio stations over the course of the summer season. The Halifax International Airport Authority has expresed a desire to contribute and is currently examining various methods of promotion through its terminal building. Halifax is in competition to be chosen as host city for the 2014 Commonwealth Games against two other cities - Glasgow, Scotland, and Abuja, Nigeria. |
