Canadians Can Soon Access Personal Medical Records Via Global Lifeguard System Print E-mail

Canadians will soon be offered the opportunity to access their personal health records over the Internet. Global Lifeguard is the brainchild of Aristex Health Solutions Inc. a privately owned Canadian company which provides information technology solutions for healthcare organizations.

The only nationwide provider of personal health record access in Canada, Global Lifeguard will allow members to access their personal medical records whenever they want which is an important first step in partnering with one's physician as it pertains to personal health management. These records are the same files normally maintained by physicians and kept in their office facilities.

Upon registration of the patient and their physician to the Global Lifeguard system the electronic health record will be updated by the doctor following appointments or changes in the patient's health status. Information is transmitted to the central database via secure connection, and can then be accessed instantly from the comfort of one's home. Every health record will be confidential and will only be accessed by the patient member, their physician, and healthcare professionals that receive the patient's consent.

The benefits of having total access to one's personal medical records will provide patients with the ability to monitor their records as well as add their own input and even manage the health information of family members. Another important aspect of Global Lifeguard is the ability to access one's medical records in case of a health crisis while travelling in other countries.

The launch of Global Lifeguard is scheduled for March 2007. Initially available only to select cities throughout Canada, Global Lifeguard will be
offered nationally by late 2007.
