BILL CASEY FOR PREMIER Print E-mail

WallingBill Casey for premier.  It’s not that far of a stretch.  In speaking with a die hard 40-year Tory supporter, he says: “I expect the Tories to lose the next election, boot Rodney out, (or have him resign for the usual ‘personal reasons’) and then make a strong bid to have Bill Casey head the Tories.

Would, given the state of things, anyone even bother to run against Casey if such a scenario took place?

In this whole ‘Casey and the Accord Affair’ what I find amazing is not what Bill Casey did, but what the others didn’t do.

By the others I don’t only mean Peter MacKay now called ‘Benedict’ by Rick Howe of the CJCH Hotline show, but the likes of Gerald Keddy, the Tory Newfoundland MP’s, and Tories across the nation.

Don’t any of them understand, recognize or care about a contract signed between a province and the federal government?

It perhaps once and for all (with the very rare of an exception of Casey) shows that those who run for election will make any promise and say anything to get elected and represent the constituents; but once up in Ottawa (and to some degree province house in Halifax) they tow the party line.

Ah, the great party line and many seems to dislike that form of government. More and more people despise even hate politicians and couldn’t care less or believe them.

There have been some great deals struck by certain provinces over the years. The most notable is the contract between Newfound and Quebec over power in Labrador.

As it turned out it is a very, very, sweet deal for Quebec. One that Newfoundland’s Joey Smallwood signed and one that Newfoundland has had to live with since.

And there are other contracts that have turned out to be one-sided.  After all a contract is a contract. A deal is a deal, or so thought MP Bill Casey.

“A contract signed by the government of Canada, affixed with the seal of this country should be bullet-proof,” says Casey.  He is shocked that is isn’t.

Kudos for Casey and boos for the preem of this province Rodney MacDonald.

We keep hearing that Macdonald is trying to negotiate with Ottawa and the slimey, sleazy, Harper government on the Atlantic Accord.

A question to the premier, what is there to negotiate?  John Hamm did something like five years of negotiations.  It’s done, it’s signed, and it’s a deal.

As Bill Casey says to the Tories ‘honor the Atlantic Accord’ it’s a 14-year deal and we have 12 years left.  It’s that simple.

Why doesn’t Macdonald get it?  And he seems to be one of the very few who doesn’t?  But then since this person took over the job from John Hamm there’s very little he does get.

When I see and hear Danny Williams, the premier of Newfoundland, fighting for the Atlantic Accord and his people I ask why we can’t have him as our premier also.
