So the editors over at the Halifax Daily News are just a bit peeved that Nova Scotians aren't rioting in the streets and demanding that every last politician even remotely connected with the mentorship program be publicly tarred and feathered.
The editorial staff simply cannot understand our apparent apathy over the scandal left in the wake of the provincially sponsored immigrant mentorship program and according to today's editorial in the Daily News there can be only two reasons why we seen to be so uncaring - Nova Scotians are either stupid or we're a bunch of bigots.
Where's the outrage dammit! To paraphrase just a bit from the editorial, "Either [we] don't understand what happened, or [we] are bigoted and don't care what misfortune befalls an immigrant". Take that you ignorant racists! The Daily News has spoken and we demand that you be pissed! So, just in case we in Nova Scotia fall under the first category - the stupids - the editorialist decided to make an attempt to stoop to our level of understanding and offer up a "hypothetical scenario". They began their lesson with, "Let's put this in terms all Nova Scotians should be able to understand..." and then offered up the old 'you graduate, no jobs at home, you go to Alberta...blah blah blah". The actual hypothetical they supplied doesn't matter even though it left more questions than viable explanation. What matters is the attitude of the editorial staff of the Daily News. I buy this paper. If your subscribers didn't buy this paper there would be no paper to buy. There would be no 'attitudes' at the editorial desk writing insulting opinion. In other words, if we all stopped buying the Daily News, all your contributing writers would be out of a job. So why treat the readers like the dirt underneath your fingernails? It makes absolutely no sense. Today's editorial, "Immigration contract stench getting worse" was an example of the worst and in some instances, the imminent downfall of a newspaper. Editorials are used to speak to the reader but this one screamed at us in the most disrespectful and contemptuous manner that I have ever witnessed. Yes there is indeed a stench. But this one is emanating directly from the editorial desk. |
