Michael Moore has decided not to submit "Fahrenheit
9/11" for consideration as best documentary at this
year's Oscar awards, instead, he wants to have his documentary
aired on television to help defeat President Bush.
Academy rules forbid the airing of a documentary
on television within nine months of its theatrical release,
however, reports indicate Moore may seek the best picture
award instead.
Moore wants as many American voters as possible
to see his film.
In a statement on his Web site, Moore said,
"I'm giving it up in the hopes more voters can see
"Fahrenheit 9/11."
"Although I have no assurance from our
home video distributor that they would allow a one-time
television broadcast -- and the chances are they probably
won't -- I have decided it is more important to take that
risk and hope against hope that I can persuade someone to
put it on TV, even if it's the night before the election",
said Moore in a statement.
Moore's DVD distributor told him "Fahrenheit
9/11" could not be shown on television
due to contract obligations, however, Moore said he won't
give up trying.
